The Best Breakfast and Brunch in Canmore, Alberta

Up there as one of the top adventure destinations in Alberta – and in Canada for that matter – Canmore has endless activities to offer adventure seekers. Whether you’re planning on a big day skiing the slopes, summiting the peaks, or exploring the sites, a great day starts with the fuel of a great breakfast in Canmore.

From quick coffee and go places to full-on, sit-down brunch spots, we’ve gathered a list of our favourite spots for breakfast in Canmore. The restaurants and cafes are listed in no particular order as we think they’re all great. We’ve more so focused on painting a picture of the place so that you can make the best choice based on your plans for the day.

Best Coffee Options in Canmore

If you’re looking for a quick coffee, bite to eat, and go kind of start to your day, then here are some great options for you to consider.

Eclipse Coffee Roasters

Eclipse is the spot to go if you’re looking for specialty coffee. Hot or cold, if you can dream it up and it has coffee in it, they can make it for you. They also have a few different snackable and baked good options to grab and go.

Beamer’s Coffee Bar

Voted one of the best coffee shops in Canmore for 10 years running, Beamer’s is often where we grab a coffee and a muffin bright and early before heading out on an adventure. They’ve got a variety of different roasts available as drip coffee, plus a barista to whip up anything else you could ask for.

Beamer’s has a few different locations in Canmore. Make sure to check Google Maps to find the one that’s most convenient to where you are, or where you’re going.

Bicycle Cafe

The Bicycle Cafe is worth checking out if you’re a cycling enthusiast. Their passion for both coffee and biking shines through. Order a latte, chat with the friendly staff, and check out their shop of both hard and soft goods, many of which reflect the local Canmore bike culture.

Good Earth Coffeehouse

Just a couple doors up the street from the Bicycle Cafe is Good Earth Coffeehouse. Good Earth offers great coffee, fresh baked goods, sandwiches to go, and plenty of tables if you’re looking to sit down to chat or maybe do some work. They also have a cute little patio outside in the summertime!

Best Brunch Options in Canmore

Whether you’re on a recovery day or If you’re looking to fuel up for a big adventure, there are some other great options for more of a sit-down breakfast in Canmore. We’ve also added in a couple of our favourite breakfast spots in Banff, just twenty minutes up the road, which could be more convenient for you depending on your plans for the day.

Summit Cafe

Across the highway from downtown Canmore hides the Summit Cafe. A very popular spot among locals, the Summit Cafe is a quaint little spot in a small commercial plaza tucked into a quiet neighbourhood. One of Canmore’s best-kept secrets, they offer all-day breakfast until 1:30pm, at which point they close for the day, so be sure to take advantage and get there before then.

They have a very simple menu, with which you really can’t choose wrong, and great coffee to go with it. We’d recommend the spicy mexi eggs, the amigos, or the breakfast burrito. Yum, yum, and yum!

Communitea

Communitea is a very popular spot among locals and tourists alike, located just outside the centre of downtown Canmore. They have incredible options in the way of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free offerings, without sacrificing at all on taste.

They have outstanding smoothie bowls, breakfast bowls, breakfast burritos and breakfast paninis, all with options to add/remove items based on preference, appetite, and dietary restrictions. Additionally, they have many gluten-free and vegan baked goods available behind a glass window that will have you drooling.

On top of all this they have an outstanding selection of coffees and teas, as well as a bright and vibrant atmosphere to hang out in, or get some work done. If you’re a remote worker, you’ve got to try this place out for the day.

Additional Note #1: Their lunch options are outstanding as well!

Additional Note #2: Communitea also puts on several musical, artistic, and community-led events each month. Be sure to check their schedule to see if there’s anything on their calendar that piques your interest!

Rocky Mountain Bagel Co

You’ll know you’re close to this place when you can smell it. The wafting scent of freshly baked bagels is enough to draw anyone into the cozy comforts of Rocky Mountain Bagel Co.

A great spot to grab on-the-go or sit down, Rocky Mountain Bagel Co offers delicious breakfast bagels and “bagelwiches” all day long. With bagel options ranging from sesame seed to jalapeno cheddar to maple to pumpernickel, their fresh baked daily bagels are good on their own, topped off with cream cheese, or loaded up with the choicest toppings.

Grabbing a Rocky Mountain Bagel and a coffee to go is a great way to kick off a big ski day in the winter or a big hike in the summer. Not to mention, it’s also right below our favorite hotel in Canmore – so their tasty treats are easily accessible before any adventure.

More Brunch Options – Just outside Canmore

Although there are some great options for a sit-down breakfast in Canmore, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that our two absolute favourite spots are actually twenty minutes up the road in Banff. Both of these options will typically be much busier than what you’ll find in Canmore, depending on the season, but they are the best two options for a long, sit-down brunch in the area.

Melissa’s Missteak

A classic establishment that has stood the test of time in Banff is Melissa’s Missteak. They offer typical, diner-style breakfast options in a cozy, cabin-eque environment, at what we’ve found to be the best prices in town. This makes it an especially great option for families. After an early morning wake up, this is our go-to spot for breakfast after taking sunrise photos in the National Park.

Tooloulou’s

For something even more “brunchy” head around the corner to Tooloulou’s and let the good times (and food) roll! Tooloulou’s serves breakfast until 2pm, offering a variety of Cajun Creole flair with an amazing selection of unique and delicious waffles, pancakes, omelettes, crepes, and sandwiches.

Oh, and we’d be failing you if we didn’t mention they also have probably the best selection of eggs bennies we’ve ever seen. Yeah, big statement, but true. If you’re up for a little spice, try the Eggs Shannon – spicy sausage benny smothered in a shrimp and lobster étouffée…mmm mmm mmm. Still not sure what étouffée means but hot diggity let me tell you it is dreamy.

There you have it! The best spots to grab coffee, brunch, and breakfast in Canmore and the Canmore area. Let us know if you have any questions about our favourites, or other breakfast spots in Canmore by dropping a question in the comments.
