Finding the Best Coffee in Canmore

When it comes to spending the day in Canmore, your choice of adventure is nearly endless. Whether it’s shredding the Nordic Centre trails, summiting a peak, biking the Legacy Trail, skiing powder, or anything in between, Canmore has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. But wherever your day’s adventure may take you, they all begin the same. With coffee. In this article, we’ll share the best coffee shops in Canmore.

Whether you’re looking to a grab-n-go early in the morning, a high-quality roast as a midday pick-me-up, or a cozy cafe to hang out in on a rainy day, we’ve got you covered. To help you find the right fit, for each coffee shop we’ve included “known for” and “budget” sections to help you quickly find your fit. And your fix.

Eclipse Coffee Roasters

Address: 702 Bow Valley Trail & 817 8 Street

Known for: specialty roasters, artisanal coffee

Eclipse is a relatively new entrant on the Canmore coffee scene, but from a purely coffee perspective, they are probably the best coffee shop in Canmore. They roast their own beans – which you can actually order online – and they hone their craft in their cafe tucked away in the Howling Dog Tours plaza just off of Bow Valley Trail. Their coffee offerings run the gamut from americanos to pour overs to aeropress. If you can dream it up, they can brew it up. Also worth noting that at the time of this writing they are one of the few coffee shops in Canmore that offer oat milk lattes!

Beyond coffee, they have a good selection of cold drinks, baked goods, and lunch options like paninis. Their peanut butter granola bar is to die for. They have a good amount of seating and it’s usually not too hard to find a place to sit and enjoy your beverage. In 2020, Eclipse opened a second location in the downtown area of Canmore at 817 8 Street. Can’t have too much of a great thing!

Communitea Cafe

Address: 117 6 Avenue

Known for: great atmosphere, artisanal tea, healthy breakfast & lunch

The light, airy atmosphere of Communitea brings a smile to anyone’s face. Not only will you find an unbeatable selection of tea and tea-based drinks here, but you’ll also find a great selection of coffees. Beyond that, Communitea offers a great menu of bowls, sandwiches, baked goods, and more. They have an excellent selection of dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options that anyone will love. Choose Communitea Cafe for a morning or early afternoon hangout with friends.

Bicycle Cafe

Address: 630 8 Street

Known for: cycling meets coffee

If you’re a bicycle lover, you’ve got to check out one of the more unique coffee shops in Canmore, the Bicycle Cafe. Biking and coffee go together like PB&J, and the Bicycle Cafe has merged the two worlds perfectly. While it’s definitely more of a bike shop than a coffee shop, they do make a mean cup of joe, brewing up fresh Stumptown Coffee. If you’re looking to grab a latte while geeking out over new gear, be sure to check them out. Their selection of bikes, gadgets, and apparel is fantastic for a shop of its size and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.

Beamer’s Coffee Bar

Address: 737 7 Avenue & 300 Old Canmore Road

Known for: grab-n-go, great for families

A long-time staple coffee shop in Canmore is Beamer’s Coffee Bar. This is our go-to cup o’ joe for adventures that start early in the morning. They offer a variety of different drip coffees ready to go, as well as espresso-based drinks made-to-order. Beyond that, they offer delicious and filling baked goods and breakfast sandwiches to get you fueled up for a day in the mountains, or to throw in your pack for when after you’ve earned it. Get your early morning buzz going at one of Beamer’s two Canmore locations.

JK Bakery Cafe

Address: 1000 7 Avenue

Known for: fresh baked goods & breads, great for families

If you’re walking through town and you get a whiff of freshly baked baguettes, they’re most likely coming from JK. They have tasty breakfast buns and quiches, soups and sandwiches for lunch, and amazing pastries and breads all day long. As a coffee shop, they serve locally roasted Mountain Blends coffee and espresso, in all your favourite formats. There’s something (delicious) for everyone at JK Bakery Cafe!

Blondie’s Cafe

Address: 701 Bow Valley Trail

Known for: unique & friendly experience, Aussie coffee culture vibes

Born and brewed in the Canadian Rockies since 2018, Blondie’s is a quaint coffee shop on the corner of Benchlands Trail and Bow Valley Parkway. Stop by Blondie’s for creamy espressos, lattes, and whole fruit smoothies in a coffee shop that emulates Bali / Aussie cafe vibes. Enjoy one of their hand-made brekkie and lunch sandwiches, crafted with locally-sourced ingredients. You can’t miss the turquoise sign on the way in or out of town.

Mountain Juice Cafe

Address: 837 8 Street

Known for: smoothies & juices, healthy bites

Don’t be thrown by the name, the barista bar at the Mountain Juice Cafe holds its own against the best of Canmore coffee shops. Beyond the classic espresso options, you’ll find tea lattes, milk steamers, and a variety of iced coffee options. Plus, they’ve got a great selection of fresh-pressed juices, refreshing smoothies, wraps, pitas, and salads. Great vegan options too!

Good Earth Coffeehouse

Address: 718 8 Street

Known for: great meeting place, breakfast & lunch selection

Located along the Canmore main drag of 8th Street you’ll find Good Earth Coffeehouse. Although this is a franchise and we would prioritize Eclipse just across the street or Bicycle Cafe a few doors down, Good Earth is a good coffee shop for sitting down and meeting up with people. They’ve got good coffee, solid breakfast and lunch options, and plenty of space to take a load off.

Canary Frozen Yogurt & Coffee

Address: 710 8 St #102

Known for: afternoon delights, build-your-own froyo

The best coffee shop in Canmore for that mid-afternoon moment when you can’t decide between ice cream and coffee. Why not have both! Pop into Canary for a fresh, barista-made latte or salted caramel hot chocolate (mmmm) on a cool Canmore morning. Or, satisfy that summer day sweet tooth with their self-serve froyo. Choose from a variety of flavours and an outstanding selection of toppings to make it your own. You earned it, go ahead and treat yourself!
